University Of Lagos (UNILAG) To Establish Refineries.
The University of Lagos, UNILAG, have announced it would soon set up conventional and standard locally-built refineries to boost the nation’s refinery capacity.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, made this known at the 1st Annual General Meeting, AGM, and 2nd Alumni Lecture of the UNILAG Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association.
According to Ogundipe, the students of the school needed to be exposed to refining process as an institution that produced graduates in Chemical Engineering.
According to him, “Committee has been set up to under-study the process from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
“If you go to some of the universities in Texas, when their students graduate, because they have refineries in their universities they do not need to do certain courses when it comes to professional courses. Engineering has left that level of just setting down and starts computing.
“It is now about turning ideas to realities. It is about producing entrepreneurial skills and developing the skills in the life our students.
“We need to develop our students, all of them have skills that are unique to them, and the skills can help them set up their own businesses in future.
“Most of our students can develop application while some are with different skills. As a Vice Chancellor, faculty by faculty I am going to interact with students to encourage them, to develop their skills and we have already gotten the commitment of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and Bank of Industry, BOI for funds.”
A mystery snake is said to have sneaked into the accounts office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital and made away with N36 million cash.
Before now, JAMB candidates purchased scratch cards from JAMB state offices and other designated centers, to gain access to the Board’s website for either registration or to check their admission status but the reforms introduced by JAMB registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, recommended an end to the use of scratch cards.
A team of auditors was dispatched to different state offices of JAMB to take inventory of the sold and unsold scratch cards and recover whatever money that might have either been generated or mismanaged during the period of the sale of scratch cards.
On their visit to Makurdi office of JAMB, a sales clerk, Philomina Chieshe, told JAMB registrar and his team that she could not account for N36 million she made in previous years before the abolition of scratch cards.
In the course of interrogation, Philomena confessed that it was her housemaid that connived with another JAMB staff, Joan Asen, to “spiritually” steal the money from the vault in the accounts office.
She said: “I was one of the four sales clerks attached to JAMB office in Makurdi. My responsibility was to sell scratch cards to candidates and not involved in handling the revenues. It was the responsibility of Joan Asen and my other senior colleagues. I only remit money when am done selling the cards.
“Few months ago, there was issue of fraud in the Makurdi office. Auditors were sent from Abuja to carefully flip the record books of the office, to perhaps, ascertain the current state of affairs.
“The state Coordinator, Obilo, was not around when the audit team came. But in the course of the audit, N36 million was discovered to have been missing from the account. An investigation was launched. In the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Joan Asen, who is account staff and a lady outside JAMB have connived to steal the money.”
Philomina in her confessional statement said that Joan Asen and her accomplices confessed that they have been stealing the money “spiritually” through a mysterious snake that always sneak into the office to swallow the money from the vault.
According to her “It was a mystery to me too. I have been saving the money in the bank, but I found it difficult to account for it. So I started saving it in a vault in the office. But each time I open the vault, I will find nothing. I became worried and surprised how the millions of Naira could be disappearing from the vault. I began to interrogate everybody in the house and office, and no one could agree on what might have happened to the money. I continued to press until my housemaid confessed. She said that the money disappeared “spiritually”. She said that a “mysterious snake” sneaked into the house and swallowed the money in the vault.”
Lagos – A 42-year-old housewife, Fatimot Abiola, on Wednesday in Lagos lost her 22 -year-old marriage to her husband, Rasheed, for wearing trousers against her husband’s wish.
Delivering the judgment, the President of Igando Customary Court, Lagos, Mr Akin Akinniyi said that it appeared that the estranged couple was tired of the marriage and all efforts to reconcile both parties had failed.
Petition for marriage divorce
“Since both parties consented to the dissolution of their marriage, this court has no choice than to dissolve the marriage.
“The court pronounced the marriage between Mr Rasheed Abiola and Mrs Fatimot dissolved, both parties henceforth cease to be husband and wife.
“Both are free to go their separate ways without any hindrance and molestation,” Akinniyi ruled.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abiola had earlier told the court that his wife wears trousers which he had warned her severally to desist but she refused.
“My mother and I had warned Fatimot severally to stop wearing trouser but she will not listen, I can no longer cope with her way of life and her deviant attitude,” he said.
The 47-year-old custom officer said that his wife was threatening him from marrying another wife.
“Fatimot is threatening to harm me if I make any attempt to marry another woman.
“But Fatimot and I have not been sleeping together as husband and wife for years,” he said.
“She once left the house and never return until after a year,” the estranged husband said.
According to him, he is experiencing depression because he does not have peace of mind.
He begged the court to dissolve the union that he did not love her again, he wants to move on with his life.
However, Fatimot said that her husband kicked against her wearing trouser claiming she wanted to be trading in prostitution.
She said that she never threatened him not to marry another wife.
The mother of three children urged the court to grant her husband’s wish. (NAN)
A former lecturer at the Department of Crop Production, College of Agriculture, Kwara State University, Malete, Dr. Solomon Osunlola, committed suicide yesterday Friday, November 17th.
According to reports, the registrar of KWASU had written to inform him of his conversion to a contract staff from a full-time appointment. This reportedly got the deceased so depressed that some of his friends had to seek spiritual help because it became a serious case.
The deceased had lost his wife three months ago. One of his friends had offered to assist him with a job at Landmark University but Osunlola declined and refused to submit his credentials.
Yesterday, his family members had to force his room door open after he did not step out in the morning. Sadly, they discovered that he had committed suicide.
Confirming his death, the director, Public Relations, KWASU, Dr. Isiaka Aliagan, said
“The Management of KWASU, Malete, would like to clarify that the late Dr. Oluremi Solomon Osunlola, was a Lecturer 1 in the Department of Crop Production, College of Agriculture. He joined the services of the Institution on a full-time appointment in 2010. However, during staff verification, it was discovered that the late Osunlola had already retired from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Kwara Office, before taking up a full-time appointment with KWASU.
Despite the fact that the deceased violated the rule of his engagement, the university, in August, 2017, converted his appointment to contract on compassionate grounds. This is all we can say about the late Osunlola.”
His remains have been deposited at the morgue.

While reading the First information Report (FIR), the police persecutor, Inspector Sani Ado stated that, Sani had called the victim who was of the same address, took her to an uncompleted building, covered her mouth and raped her.
“In the process, she died instantly”, he said.
The Police prosecutor however said investigation on the case was ongoing and requested that the case be adjourned to another date.
Abdulkadiri Umar, the Senior Magistrate directed that Sani be remanded in prison custody till December 18, when the case is to come up for mention before Senior Magistrate Falile Dikko.

A professor in Tennessee has a solution for a student who missed class after she couldn’t find someone to babysit her 3-year-old girl: Just bring the child to class.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Professor Sally Hunter at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville emailed Morgan King that she would be “absolutely delighted” to hold King’s daughter, Korbin, while teaching class.
“I’m very serious with this offer— just bring Korbyn with you!” the professor wrote, excusing the student for missing a class.
King later posted on Twitter that she cried with gratitude. And her professor’s email wound up being shared widely on social media, even by Chancellor Beverly Davenport.
Wrote Davenport: “Morgan, thanks for showing us challenges college students face. Prof Hunter, thanks for being part of the solution.”
Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, has donated 148 titles with 458 volumes of books to the University of Jos which library was gutted by fire late last year.
Vice Chancellor of FUT, Prof Musbau Akanji, said the books were donated because the colossal loss of books and equipment in UniJos was a national calamity.
“A library is a centre of civilisation of all cultures because it is a custodian of knowledge. When a library is burnt, it is like a culture is destroyed. It is not easy to re-build a lost library,” the VC noted.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor of UniJos, Prof. Seddi Sebastian Maimako, applauded FUT Minna for coming to the aid of the institution, adding that the university was encouraged by the kind gesture.
Prof. Maimako, who was represented by the University Librarian, Dr. Stephen Akintunde, assured FUT Minna that the books would be properly channeled and classified for the use of the students.
Prof. Maimako further revealed that the university library was host to six faculties, stating that the institution lost over 60 per cent of its books and equipment to the fire.
He disclosed that the Federal Government, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), approved N729 million for the renovation of the library and that construction work would soon commence after the bidding process.
If Nigerian campuses continue like this, we fit now dey yarn about United Nigeria… Gbosa for FUT Minna jare

What is Halitosis (Bad Breath)?
Halitosis, commonly known as bad breath, is an embarrassing health condition that affects approximately 30% of people around the world. Additional medical terms for this condition include stomatodysodia, fetor oris, and ozostomia. Regardless of the term used, this is the presence of a foul-smelling odor that seems to come from the mouth cavity. According to the Academy of General Dentistry, in more than 90% of cases, the odor originates in the mouth, throat, and tonsils. Although this is something everyone experiences at one time or another, if your case does not improve after brushing, flossing, and rinsing the mouth with analcohol free mouthwash, it may be chronic.
The foul oral odor is usually caused by a group of anaerobic, sulfur-producing bacteria that breed beneath the surface of the tongue and often in the throat and tonsil area. The term “anaerobic” literally means living without oxygen, and in fact, these bacteria do not require oxygen to live. Continue reading PREVENTION AND CURE OF HALITOSIS OR BAD BREATH→
