By Daniel Faithful
The opening cermony took place at the Abraham Ordia Stadium, University of Calabar, at 16:00pm (GMT+1). The stands were full to capacity with spectators watching in clusters around the perimeter of the stadium.
The event feautured a novelty match; MAWOC Veterans vs UNICAL STAFF. This was in honor of legends produced from the competition and showed brillant performance from both sides ending the mouth watering display in an eventful goal-less draw.
The spectators had seen nothing yet for the evening as the first fixture of the tournament, between Team Cameroon Vs Team Malabor was under way.
An action packed match with the first half appearing to be evenly balanced, tilting slightly in favor of team Cameroon, who worked up a goal from a nice build-up play, with several passes exchanged within the box and the eventual goal scorer sending the ball home to the top right corner from 12 yards out.
The second half began brightly with Team Cameroon coming out charged, dictating ball play and Team Malabor taking time to find their footing, searching for an oppurtunity to level the score-line and at least take back a point. A glimmer of hope came along when the referee awarded a penalty to the struggling Malabor side only for the resulting kick-taker to balloon the shot to the skies.
The poorly delivered penalty shot appeared to have spurred the Cameroon side who took the game to another level, producing 3 goals in the last half-hour to the delight of spectators.
The spectators were thrilled by a variety of performances and beautiful live commentary. The host of the opening ceremony was Mc Tallest talker.
The kick-off was by Mr. Richard Akinaka (MD/Ceo Abitto Global Services). Other dignatries present were Mr. Michele Agathanga (Consule Cameroon Embassy), who was there to cheer the Cameroonian team. Hon. Oliver Orok Orok, the commissioner for Sustainable Development Goal and Social welfare, Prof. Charles Onnei, the chairman Unical Sports council, Mr. Ekanem Aka. Saddam, Commissioner-1 for Sports, Cross Rivers state amongst others.
