NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF AKWA IBOM MEDICAL STUDENTS-UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR CHAPTER (NAAKIMS-UCC) EMBARK ON HEALTH OUTREACH TO ESIT EKET LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF AKWA IBOM STATE.

As part of their health week program, the unical chapter of (NAAKIMS-UCC)National Association of Akwa Ibom medical Students, University of Calabar chapter had embarked on a 3 day health outreach to Esit Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom state.
The journey began on Friday, the 29th day of July, 2016 from Malabor Square, UNICAL at about 11:45am with a remarkable number of NAAKIMSites(ranging from the year one class to the final year class), friends of NAAKIMS inclusive. As the journey was by road. The hired buses were fully loaded and the journey began in essence. In a matter of hours, the buses arrived the compound of the village head of Akpa-Utong village in Esit Eket local government Area of Akwa Ibom state. Speaking with a 500 level medical student, Emana Alexis, “…we were welcomed with a wonderful and mouthwatering reception…”.
Saturday, the 30th day of the month saw the outreach group set for work duly equipped with medical logistics they made for the primary health care centre built during the Akpabio regime by the Millennium Development Goal programme,popularly known as MDGs. On reaching the Health centre, Grace Obo a 400 level medical student and friend of NAAKIMS noted that “…the facility was noticed to be have been well-equipped with all types of medical equipments but was deficient of staff, referring to doctors and nurses supposed to be present in a health facility like that…”. Not minding the lack of professional hands, the visiting team of medics, set to work; inspection, removal of equipments from packs, cleanup of equipments and the general environment.
The villagers started trooping in from 10am with glowing faces as they were happily attended to by the medics. It was also noted that the day was a sanitation day and a market day, hence a work free day.
Medical examinations were carried out, ranging from blood pressure measurement and some point of care testing (POCT) giving out of drugs and syrups to ailing persons, medical advice for prevention of certain ailments and so on. It was an eventful day and in the end, the villagers left the health centre happy that their health cases were finally resolved.
The next day being Sunday, the 31st day of July,2016 saw the team of medical students and doctors, bid the people of Esit Eket farewell, wishing them the best of health for as the saying rightly goes, “health is wealth.”
The bus departed the local government around 4pm and arrived Calabar at about 5pm that Sunday.
Notable naakimsites whose immense and irreparable contributions led greatly to the success of the outreach are: Mr. Akaninyene Dan, the immediate past NAAKIMS-UCC president, His Vice, Miss Angela Essien, Phamous, Iniabasi, Emmanuel Edidiong, Mr. John Emmanuel, Emana Alexis, and many others, whose efforts led to the success of the outreach.
The whole body of NAAKIMS-UCC remain grateful to all, whose contributions in one way or the other led to the huge success that was recorded during the outreach.
The then president, Akaninyene Dan further used this medium to encourage brotherhood, love and unity in the association.
