News and purported claims about the ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITIES (ASUU) or its UNICAL CHAPTER embarking on an indefinite strike has been making the rounds as this portends a situation as most students are indeed worried about how such an action may affect their studies and both Staff and the general public.
To this effect The Nigerian Union of Campus Journalist (NUCJ) UNICAL has issued a Press release.
NUCJ: PRESS RELEASE ON THE ASSUMED INDEFINITE STRIKE EMBARKED UPON BY ASUU-UCC
The Nigeria Union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ) wishes to distant herself from the news on the purported indefinite strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The strike as assumed was as regards to the recent kidnap at University of Calabar staff quarters We therefore consider it necessary to brief students as well as staff on the following authentic information:
1. That ASUU-UCC is not on strike but merely on a sympathy action; to identify with it’s victimized colleagues.
2. That according to ASUU, its position regarding further action will be decided in it’s general congress to be convened at a date it deems fit.
3.That the sympathy action was a solidarity movement meant to last for seven working days.
Sequel to these information, we therefore call on both students and staff of University of Calabar to disregard any rumour linking ASUU to an indefinite strike action.
We equally wish to inform all and sundry that ASUU, when it finally opens up its position to the media, such information shall be made available to the general public.
Everyone is advised to heed to genuine and reliable information backed by a formal notice/or report as spreading of such false stories could lead to an unpleasant situation .
